Episode Ten: Deja Vu

By scifi-karis

Part One

INT. IMPALA (Carry On My Wayward Son Ė Kansas)

CLOSE UP on SAMíS face. He is sleeping, but looks slightly disturbed as though he is having a nightmare. PAN OUT to show DEAN driving, sunglasses on and nodding his head to the beat of the music.

Sam jerks awake, looking a little startled, and Dean glances over.

DEAN
Dude, is there any other way you know how to wake up? What is it with you and these dreams?

SAM
(confused)
Huh?

DEAN
Never mind.

Sam tries to collect himself, and Dean starts singing along with the music.

DEAN
(singing)
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when Iím dreaming
I can hear them say Ė

SAM
Dean.

DEAN
Yeah.

SAM
Are we there yet?

DEAN
Sam, I still havenít figured out where there is. You were supposed to be reading the map and you fell asleep.

Sam has been looking at Dean, but now focuses his attention out the window to see what is in front of them. They are driving through forest, with evergreens on each side and not a car in sight.

EXT. IMPALA- ROAD

The Impala zooms down the straight road and in the distance we can see a setting sun. It is starting to get late. The Impala is the only car on the road.

INT. IMPALA

SAM
Just . . . pull over at the first motel you see. Iíll figure out where we go from there.

DEAN
This is my precious gas weíre using up, here.

SAM
Youíre not Ė

Samís eyes widen as he sees something that we do not.

SAM
Dean! Look out!

CLOSE UP on Dean as he sees what Sam sees. His eyes widen and he slams on the brakes.

POV. DEAN

We see a dark figure standing stock still in the middle of the Impalaís path, staring at them. We cannot make out a face or even what the gender is before the Impala CRASHES! Deanís head impacts with the windshield, cracking the glass.

EXT. IMPALA

The car spins around, its front end crumpled. Dean and Sam are knocked up inside and we see the car come to a rest at the side of the road in the ditch, dented and steaming from under the hood. The figure in the middle of the road has vanished.

INT. IMPALA

Sam groggily wakes up, head bleeding, and looks at Dean who is apparently unconscious and covered with blood.

SAM
Dean . . . Dean!

Sam reaches over the shake his brother and Deanís head lolls. He looks dead.

SAM
Dean!

FLASH CUT TO: INT. IMPALA (Carry On My Wayward Son - Kansas)

CLOSE UP on Sam, almost exactly as he was, minus the blood. The Impala is driving smoothly down the road, and confused, Sam looks over to the wheel. Dean is driving, shades still on and no blood in sight. Dean looks over at Sam and whips the glasses off.

DEAN
Dude, you have to quit waking up like that. You nearly gave me a heart attack.

Sam is still confused.

DEAN
Screaming my name like that? I thought we were going to hit something! What were you dreaming about this time?

Sam shakes his head, relieved it was a dream, but still wondering . . .

SAM
I donít know.

DEAN
Dude, is there any other way you know how to wake up? What is it with you and these dreams?

SAM
(confused)
Huh?

DEAN
Never mind.

CLOSE UP on Samís face as he realizes with horror that those are the exact words that started his dream.

SUPERNATURAL: Dťjŗ vu

INT. IMPALA

SAM
Dean, pull over.

DEAN
(annoyed)
What do you want, Sam?

SAM
Iím serious, man. Pull over.

EXT. IMPALA

The car pulls off on the side of the empty road. The shadows are deepening.

INT. IMPALA

DEAN
Whatís this about, Sam?

SAM
I had a dream . . . and there was a man standing in the middle of the road. We didnít see him until it was too late. You tried to stop, but we hit him, and . . .
(BEAT)
And . . . you died.

Dean looks a little sheepish for being annoyed.

DEAN
And you think this might come true?

SAM
Just a minute ago you said the exact words you did before the crash.

DEAN
And that makes you think it will come true?

SAM
Yes.

Dean throws his hands up in frustration.

DEAN
So what do we do, Sam? We just wait here until morning? We canít waste anymore time, here.

SAM
We donít have a job right now, Dean. Weíre in no hurry.

DEAN
So? Iíd like to sleep in a bed tonight!

SAM
Dean . . .

DEAN
(beat)
Fine. But Iím not sitting here all night.

SAM
We wonít.

Dean looks at Sam, eyebrow raised, then settles back in his seat.

FADE TO
EXT. IMPALA

The sun has set and the stars are beginning to come out. Sam nudges Dean, who has fallen asleep. Dean smacks him in reflex.

SAM
Dean, wake up.

DEAN
Iím sleeping.

Sam reaches over and starts the car. Dean wakes up and smacks him again.

DEAN
Donít touch my car!

SAM
Letís go. And drive slow, okay?

Dean mutters under his breath and pulls the car back on the road.

EXT. MOTEL Ė NIGHT

The Impala is parked in front of a low, one story motel, shabby and run down.

INT. MOTEL

Dean is laying on one of the twin beds in the cramped room, flicking through channels on the small TV. Sam comes out of the bathroom in shorts and a t-shirt, ready for bed.

DEAN
Told you nothing would happen.

SAM
(annoyed)
Right.

Dean shuts the TV off and pulls the covers over himself.

DEAN
Shut the lights off, will ya?

Sam climbs into bed and flicks the lamp OFF next to his bed. Darkness falls and various rustlings are heard as the boys try to fall asleep.

CLOSE UP on Sam. He canít sleep. The dream he had earlier is still with him. He tosses and turns for a while, then sits up and looks at the clock. Apparently, some time has passed, for the clock at his side reads 2:47am.

PAN OUT to follow Sam as he gets out of bed and heads for the bathroom. The window is open, and the curtains billow out towards Sam. As he passes Deanís bed, he notices itís empty. He flicks the light switch ON next to him, flooding the room with light. Dean is gone. Sam looks in the bathroom and sees that it is empty. Cautiously, he steps over to Deanís bed and checks under the pillow. The knife that Dean always has with him is gone. He looks at the open window, frowning.

Worried, Sam pulls on his jeans and grabs a revolver as he steps over to the door. Carefully, he opens the door, and looks outside.

EXT. MOTEL Ė PARKING LOT

Sam steps outside, barefoot, gun held low. He moves slowly and carefully, checking out the Impala. He comes around on the driverís side of the car and looks in. Empty. But then he sees something.

POV. SAM

Looking through the car on the other side, Sam can see a bloody handprint against the back window of the car.

EXT. PARKING LOT

Sam rushes around to the other side of the car as sees Dean lying motionless on the ground, the knife he keeps under his pillow buried in his chest. His eyes are open and glassy, staring sightlessly into the sky.

SAM
No!

We see just behind Sam the curtains in their room billowing outwards, and from the curtains emerges the shadowy figure that we saw before on the road, melting out of the fabric. It vanishes into thin air.
