Act One

EXT. PLEASANT HILLS PARK- AFTERNOON

The sun shines down upon a lovely neighborhood. Everything is in order. Unity in numbers, each house quaint and perfect. Suburbia. Men are mowing the lawn while their wives, wear pink sundresses and, bring their husbands fresh lemonade. No children are running around. It’s quiet. And it’s way too good to be true. Nothing is this perfect! It’s almost creepy in the Stepford wives sort of sense. Soon day turns to night and we angle onto one of these pristine houses.

INT. LANE’S HOME- BEDROOM

MARK LANE, 30 years old, is in his bedroom wearing a shirt and boxers. He puts his watch onto the nightstand, walks over to the window and looks through the curtains over towards his front lawn. STACY LANE, 29 years old, enters the room and approaches her husband.

STACY
Honey, what’s wrong?

Mark shrugs it off as he moves away from the window.

MARK
This neighborhood. Ever since we moved in- I’ve had this feeling that our neighbors have been watching us.

STACY
You’re just being paranoid.

Mark shakes his head no.

MARK
No, I’m not. And I can prove it.

Mark hurries out of the room.

STACY
Mark?! Mark what are you doing?!

Stacy looks at him, curious and then turns her attention out the window.

POV. STACY
We see Mark hurry outside and place a pink flamingo on the lawn.

EXT. LANE HOME- NIGHT

Mark looks around. Trying to catch the eye of one of the prying neighbors. Nobody is watching. He shrugs and turns to go back inside. ANGLE DOWN to see something moving through the lawn. Mark stops, looks around. Nothing. Just his imagination… CRACK!!! The light bulb on his streetlight SHATTERS and the lawn goes dark. He gulps, but decides not to investigate further. Mark enters his house.

INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM

Inside we see a large family room with a kitchen in the back and a staircase to the right. Mark walks upstairs.

INT. LANE HOME- BEDROOM

And enters the room. Stacy glances towards her husband.

STACY
So?

MARK
(surprised)
What, you didn’t see anything?

STACY
See what?

Mark hurries over towards the window and looks out.

POV. MARK
The pink flamingo is gone, but the light is still out.

MARK
God damn it!

SALLY
What?

MARK
You should have…

The lights in the house turn off.

SALLY
What’s going on?

MARK
I don’t know.

The look around terrified. Mark sighs, laughs and nods his head- of course.

MARK
Power must have gone out. Wait here, I’ll go check the circuit breaker.

Mark leaves the bedroom.

EXT. LANE HOME

He walks around to the side of the house and checks the circuit breaker. Everything seems to be working properly. We see a shadow rising out of the ground behind him. Mark notices it and gulps. He turns around, facing the screen. Pure terror is seen vividly in his eyes as he lets out a bloodcurdling SCREAM.

SUPERNATURAL: SUBURBIA

EXT. NEW YORK CITY- SKYSCRAPPERS

Night turns to day. Angle down towards police headquarters.

INT. POLICE HEADQUARTERS- KATE’S OFFICE

Kate is at her desk, talking on the phone.

KATE
No, that’s… yes, I understand. But, my men had- yes… I understand.

Kate hangs up the phone aggravated as hell. Dean knocks on the door carrying flowers. Kate looks up at him.

DEAN
Is this a bad time?

KATE
Will you marry me?!

Dean’s eyes look around, confused as hell.

DEAN
Huh?

KATE
I’m sorry, that came out wrong.

DEAN
It did?

KATE
Yeah, can you come in?

Dean shrugs and nods.

DEAN
Just passing through Katie. Can’t stay for long.

KATE
Please, just hear me out…

DEAN
I’m all ears.

KATE
I need your help.

DEAN
Shoot.

KATE
There’s a case. Undercover work is- necessary…

DEAN
What kind of case?

Kate hands Dean a brochure on Pleasant Hills Park. Dean flips through it.

DEAN
(sarcastic)
Looks… Lovely.
(beat)
Seriously Kate, what’s this about?

KATE
That neighborhood has been racking up more deaths than… than…

DEAN
Than?

KATE
I don’t know it’s just…

Kate grins. She knows how to get his attention.

KATE
It involves the supernatural.

DEAN
Oh?

Dean flips through the brochure with a new profound interest. He’s not buying it.

DEAN
Really?

Kate hands Dean the police file about the deaths. Dean grins.

DEAN
Now this is what I’m talkin’ bout. Sounds like a classic spirit to me.

KATE
So, you’re in?

Dean grins.

DEAN
Um, I don’t know… I mean…

Kate looks a Dean with a raised eyebrow that says you’ve got to be kidding me.

DEAN
I’m in. So, what’s the plan?

EXT. PLEASANT HILLS PARK- AFTERNOON (What A Wonderful World by Joey Ramone)

We see a moving truck driving through the empty street. Neighbors watch on in awe. A minivan drives behind it and pulls to the curb next to the Lane house, which now has a FOR SALE sign on the lawn. The moving truck backs onto the driveway. ANGLE DOWN to see white sneakers setting down onto the pavement. We begin to angle up revealing Dean Winchester complete with a green polo shirt and pants… a huge frown forms across his face as he looks down at his shirt.

DEAN
Man!

Sam steps out behind him, from the passenger seat in regular attire.

SAM
I don’t know man- you sure look “devil may cry.”

DEAN
Shut up.

Sam laughs. Kate walks around and stands to Dean’s side.

KATE
I don't know... I think you look cute.

Dean sighs as he looks back up to see…

POV. DEAN
Neighbors beginning to approach them from everywhere, real friendly folk. Too friendly. Welcoming baskets and everything!

DEAN
(sarcastic)
Oh gee wiz.

Sam laughs. The wives swarm around Kate, giving her the welcoming baskets while they chatter away. Sam looks to his side to see the men surrounding Dean trying to sell him on the nearby country club. Sam stands between two parties, completely alone. He sighs.

SAM
I’ll start packing.

Dean glances over towards his brother and a sighs a huge sigh of relief.

DEAN
I’ll join you.

Sam and Dean start unpacking the packages from the truck. One of the guys, MARVIN, approaches them.

MARVIN
I’ll give you guys a hand.

DEAN
Oh, thanks. That’s awfully kind of you.

MARVIN
Don’t worry about it. After all, what are good neighbors for?

Dean puts on a fake grin.

DEAN
Right.

Soon enough every guy is helping them unpack the moving truck. Sam and Dean approach the house.

DEAN
(to SAM)
Save me.

Sam laughs.

INT. LANE’S HOME- FAMILY ROOM

Dean and Sam set the packages down. Dean looks around the house.

DEAN
Woo, wee this place is huge Sammy.
(beat)
Well, huge for- us.

Sam smirks and nods. Marvin enters carrying another package.

MARVIN
Where should I put this Rob?

DEAN
Um, down?

Marvin laughs and nods as he sets the package down.

MARVIN
Great place you have here.

DEAN
Yeah? So…
(beat)
Anything you can tell me about the people who lived here before?

MARVIN
They were really friendly. You would have liked them.

Dean nods.

DEAN
I bet. What happened?

MARVIN
Excuse me?

DEAN
You know. Where are they?… Now.

MARVIN
Past away. Real tragedy.

SAM
How?

MARVIN
You know, I promised my wife that I would finish the lawn by five and if I don’t get a crackin’…

DEAN
I hear yah.

Marvin leaves in a hurry. Dean and Sam watch on… hmm…

DEAN
Think he knows something?

SAM
Oh yeah.

EXT. LANE HOME

Kate is still with the wives.

KATE
Well, I’ll see you ladies later. I have to start cooking dinner.

The wives begin to walk away. SANDRA stays, looks at Kate.

SANDRA
Welcome to the neighborhood, you’re going to absolutely love it here!

KATE
Oh, I’m sure I will.

Sandra walks away. Kate looks down towards about fifteen welcoming baskets and sighs and she starts to pick them up one by one before entering the house.

INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM

Dean looks at Kate carrying the load of welcoming baskets.

DEAN
What do you think of our neighbors?

KATE
They’re nice.

DEAN AND KATE
Too nice.

Kate nods as she sets the welcoming baskets down.

KATE
Where’s Sam?

DEAN
Around.

INT. LANE HOME- UPSTAIRS GUEST ROOM

Sam stands alone, in an empty room, looking out the window. He sighs and closes the drapes.

SAM
Jessica.

EXT. STANFORD UNIVERSITY

Sam and Jessica walk along campus. The sun is shining brightly down upon them. The scenery is beautiful, a really romantic setting.

SAM
The test’s coming up.

JESSICA
You’re going to do great.

SAM
You think so?

JESSICA
I know so.

Sam smiles, as he looks into her eyes.

SAM
I can’t believe I got this far.

JESSICA
You’re motivated.

Sam shakes his head no.

SAM
I’ve got you. I don’t know how far I could have made it. Without you always there, by my side. Jess, I…

JESSICA
I know.

Jessica puts her hand out, Sam holds it. They look into each other’s eyes.

JESSICA
I love you too.

They kiss. We hold on the shot. As it slowly dissolves and fades away…

INT. LANE HOME- UPSTAIRS GUEST BEDROOM

Sam stands alone. He leans up against one of the walls, sighs and stares at the wall. Lost in his memories.

INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM

Dean moves to close the door. He looks out over the neighborhood.

DEAN
Welcome to…

POV. DEAN
We see Pleasant Hills Park. The ol’ Stepford reality.

DEAN (O.S.)
